At the gentle request and encouragement of my fellow student midwife and friend, a little update.
As my first full semester at school comes to a close (up until now, I haven't had a full course load due to advanced standing) I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. Hence, the lack of posts until now. I forgot how much time studying takes and also how much I LOATHE writing research papers. I'm super excited about starting next term (as I always am at the BEGINNING of the term) because I will officially be a Junior (we somehow just omit sophomore status because it's just a three year program)! This means fewer classes and more clinical hours.
I have also started putting my feelers out into my Jacksonville community Doulas and Childbirth educator friends as a means of connecting with my local birthing community. In this process, it is becoming increasingly more clear of the enormity that is involved with starting a business and a practice. Like I said in the past, I am very excited to see what I am going to accomplish in Jacksonville.
On another note, I have been approached by several friends that are interested in Direct-Entry midwifery or nurse-midwifery and I am so excited about it! I can feel the winds of change and am proud to be a part of it. Also, along the same lines, several recent articles have been published about the increasing popularity (up 20%!) of out of hospital births. Not only is this great for midwives and midwives to be, but for women in general!
I will attempt to post a little more frequently as this semester wraps up and keep you informed about what the next semester holds!

Super excited about the possiblities on the horizon!
About 10 years ago, I discovered my calling in life; midwifery. With the help of friends and family, my dream is becomming a reality and I am entering my third term of midwifery school. With just over two years to go I am overwhelmed and ecstatic with the possibilities the future holds.
This blog is going to be a great learning experience for me and I'm really excited to start sharing my midwifery experiences on this forum. If nothing else, it will be a great way to archive my journey through midwifery school and into the birthing community of Jacksonville. My goal is to make connections, offer resources and education for the birthing community of Jacksonville. I look forward to and welcome suggestions to better meet the needs of my community and grow as a midwife.
