Finally, another post!

At the gentle request and encouragement of my fellow student midwife and friend, a little update.

As my first full semester at school comes to a close (up until now, I haven't had a full course load due to advanced standing) I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. Hence, the lack of posts until now.  I forgot how much time studying takes and also how much I LOATHE writing research papers.  I'm super excited about starting next term (as I always am at the BEGINNING of the term) because I will officially be a Junior (we somehow just omit sophomore status because it's just a three year program)!  This means fewer classes and more clinical hours.

I have also started putting my feelers out into my Jacksonville community Doulas and Childbirth educator friends as a means of connecting with my local birthing community.  In this process, it is becoming increasingly more clear of the enormity that is involved with starting a business and a practice.  Like I said in the past, I am very excited to see what I am going to accomplish in Jacksonville.

On another note, I have been approached by several friends that are interested in Direct-Entry midwifery or nurse-midwifery and I am so excited about it!  I can feel the winds of change and am proud to be a part of it.  Also, along the same lines, several recent articles have been published about the increasing popularity (up 20%!) of out of hospital births.  Not only is this great for midwives and midwives to be, but for women in general!

I will attempt to post a little more frequently as this semester wraps up and keep you informed about what the next semester holds!
